Shades of Black Theatre and Therapeutic Services (“SOBtts”) is a community interest company founded in 2018 with a twofold primary aim. Firstly to create great theatre and secondly to offer therapeutic support to individuals who may be impacted by the themes from its plays aiming to create theatre that connects with life experiences.
Plays do not censor the realities of life and performances are explicitly created to work therapeutically with community members. The company uses dramatic techniques from the methodology of the 'Theatre of the Oppressed' theory is based on Landy's 9 core processes. Shades of Black also produces Awareness Raising Events to educate and inspire people to understand a cause or social problem.
